BIM Case Study: Aon HQ

London, UK
190,000 sq ft Interior Fitout
Revit 2013 and Navisworks 2013 – BIM Level 2
Aon took the decision to consolidate their London property portfolio into two buildings 55 Bishopsgate and 122 Leadenhall, after the acquisition of another consulting firm. 122 Leadenhall will become Aon’s new Global HQ’s transitioning from their current HQ in Chicago, in a move that will see the relocation of some of Aon’s most senior staff. This bold step begins the process of this insurance firm’s vision to provide a high level working environment which offers the latest best practice in new ways of working, whilst delivering a client experience that cements Aon’s quiet confidence as market leader.

As the Leadenhall Building was taken advantage of the BIM process, it made sense for the interior to follow. However as the base building wasn’t designed in 3D BIM and the contractors model utilised other software, Gensler coordinated the creation of a new Revit model for the interior fitout. The model allowed for MEP services to properly navigate the ceiling void and coordinate with the architectural design. The models were reviewed in Revit and Navisworks at Virtual Design and Construction meeting weekly.

The client is eager to utilise BIM for facilities management. Upon award of the project, the coordinated models will be passed to the contractor for further development for delivery to the clients FM team in an as-built state.
